Madeleine Tonzi explores underlying themes of memory and place, and our relationship to the environment while living through the Anthropocene. Her work takes into consideration the concept of solastalgia, which describes a person's emotional state when experiencing the feeling of loss and longing for one's environment that has been physically impacted by climate change, industrial extraction, or natural disaster. She seeks to encourage care for the world which we call home as we face an existential urgency to protect the environment. Tonzi is originally from Santa Fe and currently lives and works in the San Francisco Bay Area.
